At the moment, no marketplace based on Nostr is not up to its task.
Sorry... Plebeian, Shopstr, Coracle, Amethyst, none of these have managed to make a real marketplace so far, and in none of them have I ever managed to sell my paintings.

How many paintings have you sold via nostr? If you don’t mind me asking
The trust mechanism isnt there.. for me to send btc and trust they will send the product is a huge problem. Untill its gets tied to the postal services bitcoin marketplaces will not pop off
You right... But...
People don't really browse these places all that often for items, but I've sold 3 phones via the Nostr marketplace. It does have potential.
A trust mechanism is needed.
You sold because you are Derek Ross, I sold because over time I built trust with those who were reckless in trusting me without knowing me
Fair points.
Trust is (one of) Nostr’s biggest hurdles. Web Of Trust cannot be established without some means of each npub to “vouch” for the “trustworthiness” of another. Nostr does not have this yet.
You right... But...
Trust gained by the content of a note is ephemeral at best. How to “capture” these trust attestations in Nostr as data?
Honestly… it seems simple to me … but for convention.

I like NIP-77 for trust attestations:
https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1208
And one of my goals with https://brainstorm.ninja is to try out NIP-77
My plan:
1. calculate a WoT Influence score using follows and use that to stratify wiki articles
2. Enable users to issue contextual trust attestations following NIP-77 and the tapestry protocol
3. Whenever possible, use contextual trust attestations in place of follows data to calculate the influence scores
Then perhaps try to generate interest in some wiki articles that are controversial-ish, enough so to motivate people to wish they had contextual trust attestations and then realize aha! We DO have them!
Wondering if an escrow service for BTC over LN exists which could perhaps help the trust issue?
Just reading about this. Might be an option. Has API to work in with clients. Yet to read fully.
