I wonder if this topic is of any relevance to any one of you: celebrity impersonators on nostr, substack and other platforms, all connected to invest frauds and crypto scamming, usually operating with direct messages on one platform and invitation to telegram conversations. How do you verify legitimacy of an account on nostr ?

There's a NIP for that, I think 7? Basically, as part of your profile, you can specify a site that will verify you. Clients see it, and ones that support the NIP can ask the website if your npub really belongs to who you claim you are. You can't trust just any site to tell the truth, but if a public figure's own website is verifying them, you can be reasonably confident it's them.
