It should be a core operating principle of all builders to reduce the amount of "undifferentiated heavy lifting" they do.

Don't reinvent components and libraries, don't run your own servers and services... UNLESS they actually add value to the end product you're trying to build. And when I say value, I don't mean the type of value that only you (as the builder) care about, but things that users notice and care about.

Focus relentlessly on the value you're bringing to the end user and be ruthless about spending time only on those things that improve it.
