Me too! Perfect playlist - Danheim and Altai Kai alternating songs

Now I gotta look them up

But sounds maybe Tuvan so I’m intrigued

I think I've heard that word... Like, Siberian people, right? Altai Kai is Russian but Mongolian music

Tuvans used to have their own country, but it is now part of Russia. They speak a Turkic language, are/were nomadic herders living in yurts, and are throatsingers.

My understanding is they were the first to do overtone throat singing in the area despite it being associated with Mongolians now.

Nice! I'll look into that. Years ago, I was obsessed with the Amur region, just north of China, and that led me to studying Russian. Then, while in China, I had an opportunity to move there, and I regret not taking it. Like... I want a do over! Gimme another chance, I'll actually go this time... 😭

beautiful southern siberian traditional music, man i love their guitar things and their throat singing

this is the kind of thing that prompts me to get out my kaval and keep trying to learn to play it

Oh heck yeah. Like... I actually try pretty hard to keep my mind free of tunes, but that sound works... I can imagine being on horseback, by the vertical mountainside west of Xinjiang, playing that, heading west, bags laden with gems and jade and silk from the east

I was born in the wrong time.

i think mongolia is a good place to set up for the next 50 years tho

altai is the southernmost oblast of siberia on the border with mongolia, what is puzzling me is "kai" is usually something to do with japanese theatrical goth things, but now you mention this name i must listen, because i already knew Dannheim well

I need to fester in Japan for a bit. Would do my soul good
