Yeah, that does float to front-of-mind sometimes, but consider what they plead to—5 years vs 25 years. It took a defense team to get to that point.
I wish they could have fought and won but we are not them, we don’t have full insight as to what is known or likely from their side, then or now, so I accept that donations was helpful in some way.
Their plea deal will result in precedence that endangers even pleb LN node runners.
I can understand them tapping out under the pressure they were under. Still doesn’t change that I’m a sucker for subsidizing rich guys lifestyles when they refused to actually fight for the precedence we all donated for.
Plea deals aren’t precedent setting, but you are right, the chance to set a precedent was missed.
