Smart. Rotary and turbine engines are really good at constant RPM. The wankle got a bad rep trying to replace piston engines in direct drive cars with highly variable RPM. Wankle engines have also been used to good effect in aeronautics, typically powering rotors for VTOL capable small craft.

Volvo had a hybrid where a multi-fuel turbine charged the battery (never sold in the US). Nice to know you can use biodiesel or bad whiskey in a pinch.
