I disagree on that. Bridges embody the “protocols, not platforms” philosophy, extending the reach of Nostr into the Fediverse. And while it's technically correct that Nostr isn't natively part of the Fediverse (in the sense of speaking ActivityPub), the bridges means that from a user's perspective, Nostr content can flow into and out of the Fediverse ecosystem. That interoperability is more meaningful than theoretical protocol alignment.

The bridge is a hack, that’s all it is. Nostr was never meant to interact with the fediverse as they are built on two completely different protocols with two completely different paradigms. Nostr is about freedom, the fediverse is not.

People say Bluesky is part of the fediverse but it is also only using a bridge(hack) because it’s not native to that protocol and was never meant to interact with it.

As I said before, openvibe is the best way to utilize all of the different platforms and protocols in one nice to read feed, without the need of hacks, but you still have to have an account for all of those different platforms if you wish to interact with them or utilize any of their platform specific functions.”, T hat’s the giveaway.

By this logic, X could also be part of the fediverse which we obviously know will never be the case.

People say I am pedantic but in this day and age when definitions seem to change depending on the narrative, I just like to be as accurate as possible.

Yes, it depends on definitions. If you just look strictly to the protocol, it is different, with different principles, and it does not interoperate natively.

Interoperability comes at a different level.

You can say it is different (yes, it is, of course), but in practice they interoperate.

I do not agree that a bridge is a hack. It is a clever piece of software with lot's of design details.

Multiaccount is good for the closed silos of the corp.web - the open web can be better, with messages going through different protocols with bidirectional interoperability

Yeah, we clearly see things two different ways and I don’t imagine any amount of explanation is going to change that.

You can choose to believe that Nostr is a part of that dumpster fire, I will continue to believe it is not, based on all of the differences that we both just agreed on.

Don’t get me wrong, I wanted the fediverse to work, but instead of only having a few moderators to answer to, you have one for every instance you wish to chat with and it is completely up to them whether or not they want to allow that.

You also have rules not only meant to help create a safe atmosphere, but to also stifle free speech. Nope, not having that.

Yes, that's likely the greatest feature of Nostr: the identity is not tied to a single specific server. Mastodon is obsolete with its server-side account design.
