Thanks. But I need a self-hosting solution that is resistant to ice-storms, forest fires, tornadoes, burglaries and property forfeitures.
It’s kind of funny how it started sort of on the right track but came to a totally wrong conclusion.
Self-hosting at home is a great hobby, but it can’t be considered reliable. I’ve had too many ‘force majeure’ incidents to consider that a reliable option. The best so far is spinning up a vps paid with lightning and having processes on it that nobody suspects. Adding nostr:npub18dlusgmprudw46nracaldxe9hz4pdmrws8g6lsusy6qglcv5x48s0lh8x3 to this thread.
Same, I gave up on self hosting after some major incidents and went with VPS. There are so many aspects you'll have to take into account if you want something reliable. Not trying to discourage anyone, but it's definitely far more than spinning up a NUC and running some services on it.
great idea! 😏
Centralized corporate services are faster, have interoperability, and a low barrier to entry. They are also a prison and a rug waiting to happen. The only way to overcome their competitive advantage is redundancy and decentralization. If you can make the polish and barrier to entry the same the user wouldn't know the difference.
