It makes me wonder, is this trivializing the beauty of the years of painstaking work that went into developing this distinctive art style, or is it celebrating the fact that Ghibli has firmly established itself in the global zeitgeist?

mixed feelings abound, ne?

Definitely mixed. However, its existence has now permeated enough to nullify any pushback, so hating on it is pointless.

On the plus-side, I've seen people ask "what is ghibli?" (Shocking, I know) so maybe they would have missed out on ever seeing one of their films if it wasn't for this.
