I've been talking with GPT about using nostr data for machine learning and research. It keeps going back to the ethical considerations of using the data since users never explicitly allowed their posts to be used for research.

I personally feel like if you post on a public relay that you understand that data is public for anyone to use. Am I alone in that thought and are some of you concerned about how people will use the data you share through nostr?

In most fiat mines environments I have explored, consent has to be explicit. This tells me that there has to be some legal définition of consent somewhere.

But here we’re on #nostr. So I don’t know.

I think what the EULA says in the client people use is probably the most important starting point. Also, some clients expose properties of the relays you connect to, maybe there are terms of use exposed there also (I haven’t checked but I will).

I do #dataanalysys and #datascience for a living. I have some #nostr projects ideas myself but I don’t have the time rn. Yet I am interested in this also and interested in what you’ll be doing! I’ll be following your work.

What did you end up doing?

I haven't done anything with the work in a few days. Last couple days I've got interested in trying to enable lightning payments into the Orange Rust server and been trying to get my mind into that. It's been fun so far but completely unproductive lol

I wonder if there are opportunities to team up and share workload for the good of the network with #[4] also. I do have a strong interest in doing good things with data.

One of the challenges of this network is to find diversified content easily.

Check out those threads. Maybe we could do something. Just an idea…

I mean… combine our skills too.

We have a few search engines out there, and a NIP search spec. It’s early in the adoption curve by apps and providers.

Nos Social app by #[7] has a discovery tab seeking a diversified content view.

I’ll send you a DM.

Our search is available by API as well: https://docs.nostr.wine/api/search

Like Blake said, still early. We haven’t put too much effort in to this yet just wanted to provide something people could play with. #[4] has definitely thought about search the most and wrote the NIP-50 spec.
