A decentralized social network sounds like a good idea to me. It’s just going to take a while to become not just a replacement for Twitter in its early days, but something more. Right off the bat, I miss at least basic text formatting, but I don’t know if the app doesn’t know how to do that, or if it’s not defined in the protocol.

Twitter doesn’t have text formatting though. What are you referring to that you are missing?
I think that is by design.
Text formatting makes each post different and burdens the brain. Social networking platforms that garner hours of users time need to be simple, minimal and consistent.
