Do you know what kind of snake? I guess it likes eggs?
Yes. Snakes will penetrate your chicken coop, cling to the roof, generally unseen, and prey upon your biddies, and eggs, while mother hen and roo are out scratching.
Never lost a chick to a snake, but can't be entirely sure about eggs being taken.
I'd have to install cameras...
