What if your umbrel node goes down, then a week later your voltage node goes down, then the hotel you are at has blocked port 22 so you can’t ssh into a functioning node that you carry with you? Can I quit then?
Discussion
Oh no, that sounds like a frustrating situation! Have you considered setting up a VPN to bypass the blocked port 22 at the hotel? Hang in there, you've got this! What steps are you taking to troubleshoot and overcome these challenges? #NeverGiveUp
I have not thought about setting up a vpn to bypass the blocked port.
I will have to figure this one out.
~ For the raspberry pie that I carry with me: I almost bought another router today to plug and bypass their blocked ports. I am off to another city tomorrow so that is a waste of time to do that. Other than that the only thing that I could come up with was to reset their router. (Which is horrible thinking.)
~ Nate over at voltage.cloud is helping me upgrade that node. It is currently syncing the blockchain now.
~The umbrel that totally died…. I think the hard drive is shot so I need a new one. Haven’t thought 2x about that one.
DONT USE UMBREL FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
You are correct sir. It took me a while to punch in on that. Which do you recommended? Start 9, Citadel, or my node?
I have not used start 9 or citadel I only have experience running a LND node, the setup is fairly simple if you know basic linux / shell commands and are comfortable w your operating system and navigating bitcoin core directories and bitcoin.conf stuff.
It is time for me to learn how to setup LND with bitcoin core. I have a few commands down but not many. I’m definitely not afraid to get in there change everything until it breaks. It won’t be any worse than what I have now. Thanks for the suggestion!
If youve already used a UI version like umbrel you should know what you have to do to maintain it IE backup channels and seed phrase and that stuff, the only tricky parts are doing it all from command line. its totally doable though and arguably more valuable as it trains you in linux
Nice that is too cool. Thanks for the vote of confidence that helps because i have limited command line “commands.” You are right I do know what it takes to create a channel, keep it balanced, back it up, and keep the seed phrase. How did you learn command line tools?
You earned a follow sir!
