I met an old peasant closeby when visiting a regenerative ag project. Started chatting. Turned out hed spent past 40 years going out every day and planting seedlings. All the trees i could see up hillsides and following the streams. He had totally restored the local water system and stopped soil erosion single handedly. Mind blowing!

There you go. Most of the trees you see are his work. I think the chap might be illiterate too. Never ever underestimate people. He was amazing and the level of dedication is astonishing. The entire area is a lush and highly productive land and much of it was his doing. Extremely humbling 
9 years and I think I'll finally have my first chestnuts... Yep low time preference. "wise men will plant a tree they know they will never sit under."
11 trees and 7 berry bushes planted on my property so far this year. At least 4 more fruit trees planned and some grapes. In a few years it will be a much nicer and much more self sustaining place to live.
It has been many great workouts too. You should definitely do it.
