YES! It wasn't 411 was it?
411 was information - like the directory if you didn’t have a phone book. There was even a separate number that you dialed to get just the time and it would say “at the tone the time will be…” and it started giving a weather forecast too at some point.
You're right. I remember using 411 to get phone numbers for businesses. Later Google released GOOG-411. I forget which product was born from all of that initial data harvesting 🤣
