You are likely seeing a lot of spam.

If so, try to limit your global feed to paid relay nodes.

i am on payd relais..... its not that, i just notices that on iris.to also re-tweets are posted / shown in the global posts :-) that leads to a lot of new messages, instead of unique messages.

Nostrgram.co has some useful filters for the feeds. "First" only shows the note, skips the replies, boost/retweets.
