It doesn't need to be backed by something, because it's a pure monetary premium with no counterparty risk.

The Bitcoin ledger is protected by the wall of the encrypted energy.

Bitcoin is backed by the same thing that backs gold, silver or any hard money... It's backed by the strength of it's monetary properties.

That is why #Bitcoin is the most perfect form of money ever discovered.
