The Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Caleb Vitello was removed yesterday by the Department of Homeland Security, after only a month serving a Director, reportedly due to increased frustration among White House Officials, including U.S. President Trump, that the arrest and deportation of illegal migrants is not happening fast enough to satisfy goals set by the President. In late January, Vitello told ICE’s 25 field office directors they should arrest at least 75 migrants per day. Since then, ICE officers have been working six and even seven days a week, but Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem and Border Czar Tom Homan have blamed agency officials for falling far short of those goals. Madison Sheahan, Louisiana's Secretary of the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries and former campaign aide for Secretary Noem, is expected to be named Acting Director of ICE.
