I was a reporter in western North Carolina back in the day. It contains some of the most remote points you'll find east of the Mississippi.

There are places where you will never be found, dirt roads you never knew were there, and drop-offs you don't see coming. I've even heard stories of people falling down unmarked mine shafts. It's a beautiful yet treacherous place and that's without flooding and mudslides.
