Like in any computer game, you can throw your money in but it's not coming out again. It's revenue for Twitter but it costs them nothing to give you a blue or silver or gold badge on your profile, or allow you to edit tweets or increase tweet size. Maybe people are programmed enough to fall for it, it's a model they know. I can see partnerships with Starbucks, PayPal and Airlines bonus miles and other bonus programs, where you can pay to go on an Autobahn's petrol station toilet with Twittercoin or get some extra sugar in your soy Latte. The opportunities for surveillance and wealth extraction are endless, corporate solutions to corporate problems.
