Daily Roman History:

During the Punic wars a Roman Commander promised his men extra food rations for every Carthaginian head brought back. The soliders, wishing to get the reward, began collecting so many heads that they began to be weighed down and give ground to the enemy. The commander, realising his folly, said to get the reward they'd have to actually WIN the battle, and every man would get extra rations. Thus, unencumbered, the Romans went on to win the battle and have some extra grub afterwards. #Rome #history

Great story. Good example of the 'cobra effect'.

I’m going to keep it going and do one daily. I’m glad you’re enjoying them. If there is any particular type of history you’re interested in just let me know. I do take requests 😁 just trying to be an advocate of nostr and add content people want.
