Running a lightning node where you get your hands dirty, open some channels, buy some shit, route some sats should be an aspiration of all bitcoiners. Its such an elegant scaling solution that keeps the 'be your own bank' in bitcoin.

I've heard it isn't easy. Some people say with these next gen wallets like Phoenix coming out, it will no longer be necessary. Thoughts?
Seems very possible.
Ive dabbled all the wallets and implementations unser the sun. I will say that participating in routing and providing liquidity outside of the big players is something we need plebs to do and, while wallets like phoenix can allow you to spend self custodied bitcoin on lightning easily...it is not the same as running your own lightning node, picking your channel partners and participating in the ecosystem.
Very true. I learned so much by going through this process.
I still need to learn two more things which I just can’t seem to figure out.
