Not quite. It’s my understanding (albeit limited) that encryption being released to the public was coupled with centralization of encyoted data by private corporations. I recently read this from nostr:npub15s3hussvmv9nyvw3w8lg0x72udazmdat7tcj5vmmjafnwcvv8tpqzz6r6y . I found it pretty informative.
