If such a thing happens, there will still be some plebs running their own relays and running open source frontends. Do not lose hope.
Those who want freedom will always find ways out of necessity. You put humans in a cage they will always find away to escape after a long enough period.

I don't trust the internet.
I understand the fear. Nothing is inevitable. And in flash all that is important to you can dissappear. If the internet were to go down globally for whatever reason then we will just have to adapt. No point worrying about “what if” until it comes imo.
