i guess it depends on what you're looking to get out of it. there's a ton that you learn by running your own node, especially if you're trying to make it sustainable through routing fees. however, a very small number of people are actually able to do so. it ends up just being a test in how much time and sats you're willing to lose until you decide to just run your own node for taking or spending sats, not to make money through routing fees.

I like your reasoning! Thanks for sharing! My goal is to open channels and at least recoup the cost of opening channels and not trying to make it through routing fees.

yeah that makes sense. just right now, don't plan on making a bunch of sats.
