🤔 For some reason this question reminded me how Ludwig Mies van der Rohe spent his whole career trying to figure out how to turn a corner.

I think because it is something seemingly simple and small and fundamental and yet can unfold and unfold and unfold and become mysterious.

A simple question that always turns mysterious to me is beginning with flat and working at it to find a depth. It translates through various media so many ways.

Super fundamental but forever interesting and challenging and new

That’s a great challenge for the next days. Guess I already started with my topic today by randomly spreading color on a sheet of paper and adding abstract details. We'll see what the result looks like.

Your story of searching for a kind of perfection reminds me of the rivalry between William Turner and John Constable. He painted for years on one picture and used a special red. Both painters exhibited together and Turner analyzed Constable's very elaborate, detailed paintings. He then took a brush and painted a single stroke as a buoy in the sea in his monochrome painting - and "won" :)

Wow, what a story. Well, I guess sometimes the only way to know is to see it :))

Would have been a different tale if Turner was wrong!

mfw I look up these paintings on my phone:

🫶🏽 Best ad ever !

Turner wins - still - through genius and simplicity. Live, his works are so beautiful , I always cry a bit watching them.

Hope to see in person soon

really amazing qualities

..of course a red stroke.
