In the burning bush, Moses asked God what his name was. God answered, "I AM that I AM." The name of God is Being itself.

By claiming the name "I AM," Jesus was declaring the divine title. He is God.

He was also affirming that he existed before Abraham, and indeed is eternally preexistent. He didn't say, "Before Abraham, I was." He said, "Before Abraham was, I AM."
