When the Catholic Habsburgs invaded Oltenia, seeking to impose their faith, Gherasim stood firm in his Orthodox belief. He was captured, tortured, and ultimately beheaded for refusing to renounce Orthodoxy and accept Catholicism. His martyrdom became a testament to unwavering faith in the face of oppression.
