If you bring a child to a boxing match and show him how brutally boxers punch each other, if you tell him, 'One day you will become a boxer and fight like that in the ring,' he will become overwhelmed, scared, disgusted, and angry, and will start resisting.
This is what happens to us when we feel like whatever we want may come true. Our present self (inner child) can't comprehend the possibility that we can do that. We are afraid and start sabotaging the goal.
The trick is to play with imagination, visualizing different scenarios. The more we live it in our minds, the less threatening it will feel. Also, we can imagine what kind of person we need to become to enjoy it. Whatever we see vividly, whatever we obsess over, is what will happen...
