News from the global welcome feed

Since last weekend, when the Twitter hiatus started, I have been spending a lot of time in the global feed to welcome new users. More specificaly I used the welcome.nostr.wine relay where only new users' posts are visible.

Here are some things I have noticed, which might be interesting to some:

- We had a large number of arabic users joining last weekend, where, I assume, we had about 50% users with arabic messages. Midweek that number drastically decreased, and at the moment I hardly see any arabic.

- French users obviously were also looking for a censorship resistant alternative. I have often seen #nostrfr which made me think if might be at a point where language specific communities / hashtags are about to emerge.

- Since yesterday a lot of users come in with lightning wallets already set up. Those are new users coming from nostr:npub1earna05hx6ax38r33h3atmecjzdu547m8suw87w70aw6mlyga4hsqcja5j app's new #nostr integration.

- The most common issue is still that users are faced with an empty feed and don't know where to start.

- Currently the global welcome feed is mostly english speaking again, but I have the impression people are joining from all over the world and think the diversity of new users is increasing.

Hopefully we can improve the new user retention and keep the community growing. I'll keep a close look at https://stats.nostr.band 💜
