I like the idea of first post sigs much more than length of post sigs. That way you can be sure your sig gets posted on at least your first post every time. If it's a message like "I'll be offline for a week" or something like that instead of a website link, you don't want it to be intermittent.
I'm thinking through that as well, since for short responses I personally don't think I'd want one. Maybe just on first posts? I'll be giving this some thought.
