I think it’s because we’ve switched into some sort of tribal mindset, it’s like team sports but these conversations are much more than just black and white or blue team vs red team. It’s shallow thinking and basically everyone is or has been guilty of it in today’s age.

If you want to be able to get your point across in a meaningful way, you’re probably better off knowing exactly what the person you’re conversing or debating with believes and thinks.

It’s great to be well versed in what you believe in, but I think learning and knowing what they believe in is what gives you the real opportunity to get your point across.
