-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-

Isla Escudo de Veraguas is a remote island off the Caribbean coast of Panama, about 17 kilometers (10 miles) from the mainland. Despite its relatively small size, this isolated paradise is one of Panama’s most ecologically unique and pristine locations.

The island is known for its stunning turquoise waters, dense mangroves, and lush rainforests, providing a habitat for rare and endemic species. One of the most famous inhabitants is the pygmy three-toed sloth, which is found nowhere else in the world. These sloths have adapted to the island’s mangrove forests, making Isla Escudo de Veraguas an essential conservation site.

Due to its isolation, the island has no permanent human settlements, though indigenous Ngäbe-Buglé fishermen visit seasonally. There is no infrastructure, and reaching the island requires a boat trip from the mainland. This inaccessibility has helped preserve its wild, untouched beauty.

Tourism remains limited, but adventurous travelers who visit can experience secluded white-sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life, including sea turtles and dolphins. With its pristine environment and rare wildlife, Isla Escudo de Veraguas is a hidden gem in the Caribbean, largely unknown to the outside world.
