"I deleted the Twitter app last October and haven’t looked back. Yet I do mourn the severing of connections and relationships with many incredible people and colleagues I met during my tenure on the site.

However, I found it unconscionable to maintain a presence on a platform where white supremacy and hate are now promoted and even financially rewarded.

Since then, I have landed on Mastodon.

I have read think pieces stating Mastodon is “too difficult to learn” and “silos users away from others.” I’m not a tech guy, but that has not been my experience.

In fact, I very much enjoy my time on Mastodon (so far).

In the 15 years I’ve been active on social media — including Twitter — I’ve had more engagement on Mastodon in the last several months than I have ever had on any other social media platform.

For me, Mastodon being truly de-centralized and not owned by a corporation or individual is the selling point that won me over. The lack of ads and manipulation of content by an algorithm?

Priceless.
