The weight of the glaciers farther north lifted the mid atlantic like the light side of a lever. That area is still "falling" from the glacier weight being removed from the heavy side of the lever when they receded. Conversely the northern atlantic coast is still rising from the glacier weight being lifted.
That is why sea level rise is a much worse issue in Outer Banks than Downeast Maine.
Building properties and roads also dont help. It is only erosion compared to stationary structures. But it is beach migration if there isnt anything there 😊 Luckily, we live on the back side of the island. Should have beach front property in about a thousand years.
Now that is thinking. Watch those property values climb.
