What’s a good percentage of your total btc to keep onchain? I’ve been trying to think of a good ratio.

What do you mean on-chain.. like not in a lightning channel

Depends on your future lightning purchases. I try to keep a couple hundred in various LN wallets.

A couple hundred dollars or a couple hundred BTC?

Couple hundred USD worth. Not btc. I think I loaded about $80 on my alby when I set it up and my 2 other alby business accounts I put $200 each for #zapvertising also have WoS with about $140 usd worth.

If you had 1 million dollars cash how much of it would you keep in a checking account and in your pocket? How much of it would you store away long term?

Think out that and you might come up with your ratio.

Tbf this isn't a fair analogy since no millionaire leaves their net worth liquid.

I do get your point tho just being pedantic πŸ˜…

(This is why I love Nostr)

Lol I realized that when I wrote it but the magnitude of money is for ease (we like big round numbers).

Also the on-chain analogy could be keeping it in gold.

How much of that million would you put into assets? How much of it would you keep in a checking account?

You're 100% right, and your point is valid, you would want to keep the majority of your wealth stored away safely.

Like I said I am just pedantic, ignore me haha πŸ˜…

99 - 99.9% onchain.

Like 1-5% LN, the rest on-chain in cold storage.

I consider corn on lightning as spending money. The rest resides on a Trezor.

Most of it. I’m trying to build some liquidity on layer 2, but most of my BTC will live onchain forever.

90% on chain at least, imo.
