First thing first, your app is a client. Not all clients interact with Nostr in the same way, functionalities may vary. So when asking for help always mention your client. I am on Damus mainly, but I also use other web clients regularly.

Not quite. It’s twitter like, but that’s just the surface. There is long form (blogs), channels and groups are coming, marketplaces, media distribution (audio and video)… it’s almost like a new web
The protocol is made of a series of NIP (implementations possibilities) then devs use what they need and want in their clients (apps).
