Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse is a short Bildungsroman which focuses on the spiritual, social and moral growth of the protagonist, named Siddhartha, from childhood to adulthood.

Originally written in German, Siddhartha is beautifully written and is set during the time of the Buddha.

It’s a serene and thought-provoking read and one which I often find myself reflecting on. If you enjoy this Hesse has written plenty more brilliant, insightful, and lyrical novels.
