You're looking at it from the standpoint of a protocol that's not yet totally fragmented. I can tell you in the ActivityPub world, where things are a lot more antagonistic, the way to win is by pretending to be Genghis Khan building and destroying nations.

If you centralize, then decentralize over time. You can have a large enough user base for reliable P2P
