Why are people worried about digital ID?

You know your ID info is already in many computer systems right?

It's already digital even if they gave you a physical NFT of it...

True to some extent, but in the US at least, it’s segmented as each state has its own system, which are also separate from federal systems. The more uniform ID systems become, the easier it is to integrate on a larger scale and tie into other systems like credit reporting, banking, etc.

What we have today is all the downsides of digital ID and none of the pros. If they implement their plans we will not get any pros either, they will just invent new downsides.

I do not think the Davos crowd and their lackies would advocate the implementation of digital IDs unless they saw them as benefitting their technocratic ambitions.

I'll second the posts about it currently being fragmented. A more centralized system leads to greater control and abuse.

I suppose that if presenting id became easy and seamless, then more places and businesses would ask for it. Imagine that with a single NFC tap your phone can send your id, your social credit score and your credit card or CBDC info. So convenient! It could become normalized. There would be no excuses left for not having id on you or not wanting to present it.
