OK, I wasn't going to say anything until we were further along, but...

A mate and I are planning on doing custom #meshtastic boards as cheaply as possible. Our plan is to use the RFM95W (915MHz only) and RP2040.

We haven't made a full BOM yet, but we're targeting 10K sats or less (assuming we do a bulk buy and things work out as well as we hope).

These would basically be relay-only nodes. Or they could be combined with an open source IoT device (connected over UART, I2C, or SPI).

Things like a door sensor that will send out an alert each time a door is opened or closed. With some custom firmware, you could even have it integrated with the only extra hardware being a switch.

Love this! I will follow you and look forward to updates. 👍👏👏

The SeeedStudio ESP32S3 with Meshtastic is only 0.04634 #Monero. It may be possible to get cheaper than that, but it's probably not going to be particularly easy.

That does pack a lot of lunch for that pricetag. Thanks for sharing, I hadn't seen that model before.
