More assassinations on Russians by both Russia and Ukraine have taken place than the converse.

Yea!! Pointless murder, death, and suffering!! (Obvious Sarcasm)
Russia could have just went after a country that would have folded quickly and expanded their empire, but instead they went ahead and started something they can't finish.
I don't personally agree with invasions, but I do recognize one that will fail. Now they're depleting all of their resources, and if they drag this out several more years, they may never be able to fully recover.
It is senseless and pointless, and an absolute waste.
