They are both correct. I believe gray is more common in the US and grey more common in the UK. I consider them interchangeable.

Pretty sure gray —> American and grey —> English/ other English speaking countries

So here’s the mnemonic trick I’m going to use from now on

Gray with a because America

Grey with e because England
