I think #0xchat is the best option right now. To my understanding, though, none of the options are quite as private as other options yet. I think NIP-104 should close the gap for the most part, but I also don't think 0xchat implements it yet. But it might not be a finalized NIP, either, so might not be their fault.
checking that out now. looks pretty clean. a little buggy on my android galaxy s21, but that could be my security settings.
