Will clients show an error message like the one in the screenshot with non-zappable ln addresses?
No, if it's just a lightning address the payment will be made without the call back to Nostr. No error displayed.

Btw which client are you using right now? It's not setting relay nor pubkey hints but it sets root markers which are toxic and should be abolished.
