I feel like I need to do some relay cleanup.

I have between 5 and 10 relays offline at any given time, and I get push notifications for zaps but they don’t appear in the Damus notifications tab

I’m on a mix of paid and free relays. Are there any I should dump, or any important ones I’m missing? https://nostr.build/av/356c616c2c7eae4c3bbd3af24ae73f976c9735536d2b9f5688045718cfe6b801.mov

Check my relay list. Feel like I finally found happy balance. Great connections, phone not running hot, getting all my messages (at least think so anyways, no one has complained yet that I’m not replying😆)

Thanks Ferret 💜🫂

You’ve got a very clean list! I was running around 10-12 for a while but now I’ve added a couple each month.

Trying to get a sense of whether I’m over connected or not. Or if that’s even a thing lol

#[3] helped me figure mine. Guess some relays I had were duplicates, doing same thing, & dragging down my speed. Really don’t understand enough about relays,… hence.. Lord SameCat 🐈‍⬛ tag

Step 1

Take any of these off:

You get their content through filter.nostr.wine

I’ve been wondering about precisely this 🙏

And since I subscribed to nostr.wine, I can still write to these relays if I remove them?

Yes. Your client supports NIP-45, so if you’ve got just filter.nostr.wine there, it is writing to them for you.

NIP-42 I mean. I think.

🤔

I get NIP’d up sometimes

I generally recommend keeping about 10-15 tops. Paid can make up half or better. Especially with the filter to keep you in touch with free relays.

More than that really burns your battery up for no real gains.

You can extend your reach by going to nostrified.online and blasting out your events every so often. Make sure to show #[4] some love for the tool.

I also vet my relays through nostr.watch to see how fast/slow they are. If they’re slow they’re either too far away or too loaded. We contribute to the decentralized nature of nostr by spreading out some.

You only need one shared relay with someone to see their notes.

Just some general tips.

Thank you for this great guidance 🙏💜🫂⚡️

No problem. My advice may be different from some, but it’s worked well across several clients on many operating systems.

Your phone’s battery will thank you. Nostr is not kind to batteries. 🤣

So true!! Your help fixing my relays made huge remarkable difference in battery life! And phone dies not run like smoker anymore either🤣🤣

It really does feel like it catches fire sometimes dunnit?

🔥 💨 yes 🤣🤣

More info on the filter here:

Look at the last two sections for the list. Don’t worry about adding the broadcast to the URL on amethyst.

#[4] can correct, but I think it’s automatic with that client now.

As an aside, you can turn free relays off in global by tapping the globe icon on each relay. Cleans 95% off the spam up in global, makes finding cool people to follow easier.

Ooh I definitely do that lol

#[2] can ya have look & maybe help Boston?
