Given the state of the world, economic turmoil, social unrest, wars, it's understandable people vote for change.

But what you said about Dems being left of most Americans is ridiculous. If you look at voter turnout compared to 2020 or Obama's years, you can see that rather than a shift, former Dem voters just didn't showup. I think it's because Dems are barely distinguishable from the Republicans (Dems == GOP + identity politics), so no actual change.
