The police chief of Marion, Kansas raided the offices of the Marion County Record, a small-town newspaper, after the paper had been investigating him for alleged sexual misconduct. The raid also included the seizure of computers and servers from the newspaper's office, as well as the home of the editor and publisher and his 98-year-old mother.
The newspaper had received anonymous claims from more than six sources alleging sexual misconduct by the police chief, who had previously worked for the Kansas City Police Department. The raid was conducted based on a search warrant that alleged "identity theft" by the newspaper's reporters, which was claimed by a local restaurateur who accused the paper of illegally obtaining her DUI records.
The police chief declined to respond to inquiries about the sexual misconduct allegations and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has started a probe into the matter.
