I think because this time there is less ordinal filling the extra block space and more stamps, which afaik are like ordinals but stored in the utxo set something like that, they pay higher fees but the data cannot be pruned from a node.

Because ordinals are mainly text now (brc 20 tokens). The spike in avg block size in April was due to the heavier jpegs/inscriptions.
