If an exploit has a negative impact on the primary purpose of a software, what do you do? You fix the bug to ensure that your software operates as designed. In Bitcoin if an exploit affects the primary purpose of the software (settlement) the exploit remains because it's an attack on the free market and censorship.

Bitcoin doesn't need more utility. It's utility is "currency" and not digital photo album. Hence, since the Taproot exploit is impacting the primary purpose of the software it should be fixed. #ordinals #runes

What about scaling the BTC network? Is there truly no utility to Runes? I can’t grok the Ordinal theory myself 🫠🤔🙈

It doesn't matter if you find some sort of utility for the runes or not. Storing jpg's on the blockchain isn't Bitcoin's purpose. Being a electronic cash system is. That's the utility and the only utility a currency needs.

Of course we can add more utility to the blockchain but if anything has a negative impact on the blockchain's primary purpose (especially if injected via an exploit) then it has to be fixed to ensure the functionality of the software "as intended".
